Weight Loss Ideas and Tips - Beverages
Need some weight loss ideas and tips focusing not on what you eat each day, but on what you drink? Read on!
You might be surprised by how many calories you drink each day. A glass of juice with breakfast, a few cups of coffee with cream, a protein shake made with 2% milk, a glass of wine with dinner, and you've just consumed as many calories as there are in one entire meal. How do you cut the calories you consume in beverages so that you can experience fast, healthy weight loss? Here are some of the best weight loss ideas for lowering your beverage caloric intake:
Water of Life: Water is necessary to flush fat and toxins out of your body. There are a number of different theories on how much water to drink each day, but the simplest way to know if you're drinking enough water is the color of your urine - if it's clear, you're drinking enough water. If it's not, drink up! Just keep this in mind: if you're not drinking enough water, weight loss will suffer. Here are twenty tips to increase daily water intake. Wake Up To Water: Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. Your body has gone eight hours without water, and needs to be replenished. Lemon Water: I usually add a splash of lemon juice to my water to give it a little flavor and a little Vitamin C to boot. Try it with hot water - it's a great alternative if your a morning coffee drinker. Pour In The Powder: Whether it's Crystal Light or Propel fitness Water or some other brand of your choice, sugar-free and low-calorie drink powders add flavor - and in many cases additional bonuses like vitamins and minerals - to your water, without additional calories. Substitute, Substitute, Substitute: Instead of 2% milk, switch to skim milk or unsweetened almond milk (you'll get used to it, trust me!). Using skim milk instead of cream in your coffee will save a ton of "wasted" calories each day. Eat your fruit, don't drink it; or, switch to a diet or low-calorie juice, and add a splash of juice to a glass of water. Java Jive: Studies show that coffee can help you workout harder and longer - need I say more? Actually, yes! Coffee is a diuretic, so be sure to drink one glass of water for every cup of coffee you drink.
Tea Time: Many people drink green tea for weight loss and for the health benefits that green tea is famous for. Simply steep a tea bag in a cup of hot water for a few minutes. Add a squeeze of lemon if you like, but don't add cream, as studies have shown that doing so diminishes the benefits of green tea.
Shake It Up: Making a high-protein, low-calorie smoothie for breakfast is a great way to start the day off on the right track. Smoothies are also a great snack, especially after a workout. You can find countless low fat smoothies recipes on the internet.Ditch the Juice: A glass of juice is healthy, but it also adds extra calories to your daily intake. Not so good when you're trying to lose weight! What are your options? Go with a low-calorie, sugar-free juice; add a splash of juice to a glass of water; or eat an orange rather than drink it! Ditch the Booze Too: Your body metabolizes alcohol before it metabolizes anything else. So while your body is metabolizing the two glasses of red wine you had with dinner, it's not metabolizing any fat. Drink alcohol only occasionally, or ditch it altogether for the maximum weight loss.
