TRX Suspension Training
TRX Suspension Training provides a simple, effective, total-body workout that you can do anytime and anywhere.
This innovative exercise system was developed by a Navy Seal who was deployed overseas and did not have access to any exercise equipment. So he improvised - he grabbed a few lengths of parachute webbing, hand-stitched them together using boat repair tools, hung the resulting harness from the nearest tank, and started his workout.
You can do more than 300 exercises with this unit (strength, stretching, plyometrics, pilates and core). You increase and decrease resistance by changing your foot position, which changes the angle of your body. The steeper the angle of your body, the more challenging the workout will be.
It's completely portable and can be used indoors and out. Just hook it over a door, a sturdy tree, fence, jungle gym, etc., and you're good to go. It takes about 30 seconds to hook up. When you're done, just unhook it and place it back in it's little pouch.
It lightweight, weighing in at about 10 ounces, which makes it perfect for traveling. No more excuses for not getting a workout in when you're on the road - just hook your unit up to any door in your hotel room.
A few of my favorite exercises:
Plank: To perform a plank, your feet go in the straps so that your legs are suspended. This is great because it not only takes a load of stress off your back, it also allows for some clever maneuvers, such as a pike plank.
Squats: Holding on to the straps as you squat allows you to achieve a greater range of motion and thereby work a number of smaller muscles that don't typically get worked very much. And by changing your foot placement (moving closer to or farther away from) the unit you can increase and decrease the difficulty of the squat.
Curtsy Lunges: Again, hang on to the straps and perform a lunge, but cross the back foot behind the foot that is planted. Great for the glute and hip area. Adding some propulsion to the move will get your heart rate going within minutes.
TRX on The Biggest Loser
Here's a quick video that shows how trainer Bob used the TRX with his team members.
This excellent new workout system is available at Fitness Anywhere, and can be purchased by itself or as part of a bundle. The TRX Home Training Bundle runs $169.95 and includes everything shown here. I love the TRX - it's one of the most effective new pieces of exercise equipment I've come across.
