Importance of Physical Fitness

The importance of physical fitness. Exercise and weight loss. Nutrition and physical fitness. Womens health and fitness.

You can’t turn on the TV or radio these days without hearing about all of these topics and more. The problem is that all too often no one answers the question why is physical fitness important to your overall health and well-being? Without that part of the picture, it can be hard to get motivated.

Stop and do a self-check for a moment. Have you found yourself getting out of breath going up a small flight of stairs? Has your energy level seemed non-existent? Do your muscles seem saggy and baggy? Does the idea of trying on your skinny jeans terrify you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’re starting to understand intimately the importance of physical fitness. It literally affects all aspects of your life, including your mental outlook.

People who are out of shape often suffer with sideline mental issues. These include depression, anxiety, and self-depreciation. The mental benefits of exercise and healthy eating are numerous and include a decrease in tension, anxiety, stress, metal depression, sadness, and anger, all of which can lead to a boost in self-confidence.

While eating healthy food and routinely exercising certainly helps when it comes to weight loss and fitness, more importantly making this life style transformation changes how you feel. As your body begins to reshape itself, you’ll find you can think more clearly, your endurance improves, your mood will be brighter and you begin engaging life in new, exciting ways.

Now, some people reading this might feel there’s no time to get into great shape. Don’t fool yourself. Part of that reaction comes from having been sedentary for too long. It’s easy to just give up. But the importance of physical fitness is too great, and you owe it to yourself and those you love to at least TRY.

The truth is that even 10 minutes of brisk walking every day can help you toward being more fit. Make a commitment to yourself to begin living a healthier lifestyle today. You don’t have to go from zero to sixty in one day, or even one month. Rather, make slow, steady adjustments in your diet and exercise routine until it becomes a natural part of every day.

Here are some quick and helpful fitness and health tips to get you started:

Take measurements and pictures before you start. On the weeks when you’re not seeing progress weight wise, you’re likely losing inches. These pictures and statistics will PROVE your progress so you don’t give up.

Create a fitness journal (or start a blog - I did!). Write down how you feel right now, what your energy level is like, how exertion affects you – be really, really honest. You want to come back and read this first page in about a month. You’ll be surprised at the changes you see.

Create a workout routine you can live with. For example, get up just 20 minutes earlier everyday to take a walk, do an exercise video, or go to the gym. This is especially good if you have a desk job.

Get rid of all the junk food in your house, or at least make it inaccessible. And instead of eating fast food, pack a healthy, portable lunch and take a walk while you eat.

Overall the goal of being physically fit can be reached with one basic plan: Move more and eat right! Understanding the importance of physical fitness can help keep you motivated to get up and go. Remember you are important to many people who want you around for a long time. Don’t just sit – GET FIT!
