Fitness Tips for Teens

Looking for some fabulous free fitness tips for teens? We’ve got some of the best fitness and health tips that are quick, simple, and will make a difference in any teen’s life.

Start slow…but start now! So you can’t run a mile – so what? Get started – NOW! – with something as simple as a walk around the block. ANYTHING is better than nothing, and you'll be amazed at how quickly your strength and stamina will improve.

Just do it. I'll bet you've heard that before. You need to stop worrying about what you look like and what other people think about you. So what if your belly jiggles when you run? If you don't do something about that jiggly belly now, it's just going to continue to jiggle. Other people are usually too busy worrying about themselves to spend time thinking about you.

Two is better than one. Cardio and weight training - together - will get you results much more quickly than either one on its own. Lift weights one day (yes girls, you too - it's the only way to tighten those muscles and blast through fat!), and do cardio the next day.

Partner up. Do some of your friends need to lose weight too? Ask them to work out with you! They'll probably appreciate having a partner just as much as you do. You're more likely to show up for your workouts when you know someone is waiting for you. And studies show that people who enjoy their workouts are likely to workout longer.

Team up. Sometimes joining a team - maybe a tennis or soccer team - is just the kick in the butt that you need. Team sports usually involve performing drills and conditioning exercise with a coach, who will push you and motivate you. Plus you'll have a whole bunch of teammates to motivate and inspire you as well.

Rest up. You've got to give your muscles one day of rest between weight training routines. Your muscles actually repair themselves and grow during the rest phase, not during the workout phase - weird, huh? So if you lift weights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, do cardio on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Take Sunday off - you deserve it!

Amp it up. Be sure to gradually increase the intensity of your workouts. Your body quickly becomes used to your regular routine and you'll stop seeing results unless you continually increase the intensity. Increase your speed or distance when doing cardio, and increase your load on a consistent basis when lifting weights.

Fit it in. The toughest thing for everyone - not just teenagers - is fitting in your workouts, but you gotta do it. Getting up an hour early and working out first thing in the morning is one of the best ways to ensure you get your workout in. If that doesn't work for you, plan your day so that no matter what, you have a free hour to get your workout in.

May I have this dance? So you're not big on sports, and not really interested in lifting weights. What are you gonna do? Try an activity that you can do on your own, such as dancing, karate, snowboarding, or rock climbing.

Wii it up. If you've get a Wii at home, why not get Wii Fit? It's challenging, gets your heart rate up, and hardly feels like work.

Out and about. If you like getting out and working out with other like-minded people, join a gym.

Keepin’ it at home. Still a little self-conscious? Check out the free exercise programs on cable or dish tv, or pick up some workout videos and workout int he privacy of your home.

And that's it - for now - for fitness tips for teens. We hope you found these fitness and exercise tips helpful. Be sure to check out Teen Weight Loss Tips and our Teen Fitness Nutrition page for further information and more free tips.
