But for those of us who aren't too keen on water to begin with, it can be tough just to figure out how to stay hydrated, and trying to increase water intake can be even tougher. So I've put together twenty of the best tips on water and weight loss that I use to increase my daily water intake. Try a few and see which ones work best for you!
1. Start Early: The first thing you should do when you get out of bed in the morning is drink a glass of water. Your body is probably slightly dehydrated, since you haven't had any water for the past eight or so hours. Believe it or not, it will give you just as much energy as a cup of coffee.2. Hot Stuff: If you're trying to stay away from coffee because of it's diuretic effects, but you still crave a hot beverage in the morning, heat up a cup of plain water. Add some lemon juice and a natural sweetener such as honey or stevia, and sip away. 3. Drink When You Pee: OK, not actually at the same time, but get in the habit of drinking a glass of water as soon as you've finished in the bathroom. 4. Drinking and Driving: Try to consume an entire bottle of water during your daily commute. 5. Bottle of Fun: Get a bright, colorful water bottle - one that is free of BPAs (look for BPA-free on the label) - and carry it with you everywhere. 6. Kill the Cravings: Thirst is often mistaken for hunger. When you're hungry or craving junk food, drink a glass of water instead. Just do it! 7. Pick a Straw: Drink water through a straw - it seems to make the act of drinking water more fun and enjoyable. Try it! 8. Juice Jazz: Jazz up a plain glass of water with a slice of cut fruit, or add a splash of juice to a full glass of water. 9. Powder Power: There's a great variety of powdered drink mixes on the market that add flavor - some even add vitamins - with few or no calories. 10. Cool Cuke: Adding cucumber slices and fresh mint leaves is a nice, fresh alternative to plain old water.
11. Add Some Sparkle: You can make your own sparkling water with the help of a seltzer bottle (sometimes called a soda syphon). You can find a variety of seltzer bottles online - they run anywhere from $10 to $100.12. Remind Yourself: Set a reminder on your watch, your cell phone, or your computer to pop up on the hour - all day long - and remind you to drink a glass of water. 13. Mealtime Beverage: Drink a big glass of water with each meal. 14. Ditch the Diet Soda: If you can't ditch it altogether, at least limit the diet soda to one can per day. Really take a close look at the ingredients in a can of diet soda - you're literally pouring chemicals into your body, which is just not healthy. 15. TV Time: If you watch TV most nights, pick one show per night and drink a bottle of water while you watch that show. 16. It will also help you eat less at those meals. 17. Turn Up the Volume: Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, oranges, grapes - the list goes on - all have a high water content that will add to your daily intake.18. Start Slowly: When you are increasing your daily water intake, give your body a week or two to adjust to the additional water it is receiving. Start with one or two cups of water the first week, and increase the amount of water you drink each week. 19. Temperate Zone: Some people like ice cold water, while others prefer slightly chilled or even lukewarm water. Try drinking a glass of water at different temperatures to see which temp your body prefers. 20.
