Boot camp workouts are becoming more and more popular, both at fitness clubs and on workout videos. A mix of hard-core, old-school boot camp exercises – push-ups, burpees, lunges, squats, jumping jacks – gets your heart pumping and your muscles flexing, and when combined with a healthy eating plan, will get you in shape in no time at all.
In bootcamp workouts, you’ll be asked to perform a number of high intensity exercises in rapid succession, with very little – or in some cases, none at all – rest between exercises. For example, you might do the following sequence of exercises for 60 seconds each – jumping jacks, push-ups, burpees, squats, and plank – with no rest in between. Then you’ll get a 30 second break before you repeat that same sequence of exercises. Then you do it all over again for the third time.
Whew! That’s just one example. Another bootcamp workout might change up the number of exercises, or the duration of each exercise. And it never gets boring, as you typically mix the exercises up from day to day, and workout to workout. Maybe your instructor will have you do some exercises with bands, or dumbbells, or weight plates. Whatever you do, the fresh mix of exercise keeps you – and your boot camp motivation! – in overdrive.

Finding The Best Boot Camp Workout
Finding the best boot camp fitness program for your needs is important. If you already belong to a gym, check to see if they offer a boot camp fitness program. If you don’t belong to a gym, check around at the local YMCA or fitness centers, or just Google “Boot Camp Workout MY City” (replacing “My City” with the name of your city), and see what comes up. Most boot camp fitness training programs will let you try a class or two at no charge, so it’s definitely worth trying a few and finding the program with the best facilities and the best instructor.
Weight Loss Boot Camps
Weight loss boot camps are a little more specialized than your average boot camp. In this type of boot camp, you’ll do a weigh-in with your instructor – usually on a weekly basis – and also have your measurements taken once a month or so. You might also have some special sessions focusing on nutrition and weight loss.
