Benefits of Physical Fitness

The benefits of physical fitness are numerous. Some are more obvious than others, such as a smaller waistline and a bikini-ready body. Others are more subtle and not so readily-visible, such as stronger bones and a stronger heart.

Womens heart disease is the leading cause of death in women in the US. Regular exercise helps to minimize the effects of coronary heart disease.

Irregardless, the overwhelming benefits to exercise should make working out a priority for everyone. The benefits of physical fitness include:

Stronger Heart: Regular exercise strengthens the heart and makes it a larger, more efficient muscle. As you continue to exercise, you'll become less and less winded when performing the same activities. Running a mile might seem difficult for the non-exerciser, but after you do it three times a week for a few weeks, it'll seem like a piece of cake.

Increased Good Cholesterol: The type of exercise that you do is not nearly as important as the frequency and intensity of the exercise when it comes to increasing your good cholesterol.

Lower Blood Pressure: The risks of high blood pressure are many. While medication can help reduce it, exercise has been shown to be just as effective at reducing blood pressure.

Reduced Risk for Disease: Consistent exercise reduces the risk for heart disease, heart attack, stroke and some cancers.

Stronger Muscles: All of us will lose muscle mass as we age. If we can make our muscles stronger now, we'll be more active and mobile as we grow older. Plus you'll be able to pick up the kids and grandkids without batting an eye, which makes for a better overall quality of life.

Increased Flexibility: Flexibility decreases as we grow older, making us more likely to suffer a sprained or torn muscle or ligament. Stretching before and after a workout helps keep you flexible, no matter your age.

Stronger Bones: Adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D are two major players in preventing the bone-thinning disease of osteoporosis, but weight-bearing exercises are just as important in building and maintaining bone mass.

Reduced Stress: Exercise increases the amount of endorphins flowing throughout your system, which can lower the symptoms associated with mild depression and anxiety.

Improved Sleep: Afternoon exercise can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep. But watch out - exercising too close to bedtime can keep you awake at night.

Increased Energy: It sounds counter-intuitive, but the more energy we expend during the course of the day, the more energy we gain.

With so many obvious benefits of exercise and reasons to exercise, what are you waiting for? Browse through this website to find some of the best fitness tips and exercise plans available.
